The British group «Cutting Crew» was formed in 1985 by vocalist Nick Van Ida and guitarist Kevin Scott McMichael. Coming from East Sussex, Van Ida began with speeches in the school band, which performed a song of his own composition, as well as cover versions of songs by famous bands such as «Small Faces» and «Free». Subsequently, fate brought him with renowned producer Chesom Chandler, former bassist «The Animals», once open to the world of the legendary guitar virtuoso Jimi Hendrix. Soon, Chandler sent a young musician on tour in Poland, along with his then-wards, the group «Slade». Nick've also come up with David Essex, «Hot Chocolate» and another former member of the legendary «The Animals» - Alan Price. However, his career was not given a solo artist - they recorded a few singles failed completely, and in the early eighties, he joined a group of native Sussex «The Drivers», in which he played one of his school friends. Nick and «The Drivers» toured the country, and then made a tour of Canada. During this visit, he met with guitarist Nick accompanying their Canadian group «Fast Forward» Kevin McMichael. During the tour, they decided to create a new team. Soon after his return to his homeland «The Drivers» disintegrated, and Nick was completely free, and after the contract expired, binding McMichael with «Fast Forward», in the summer of 1985 he moved to the UK. Sowing for writing songs, they soon made a few demos for «Siren Records» label, putting thus the beginning of the new group. The following year, they were joined by drummer Martin Biddle and bassist Colin Farley and the group itself, called «Cutting Crew», took custody of the company «Virgin». Another unofficial member of the band began to play keyboards session musician, Tony Moore, who toured with them for more than two years. «Cutting Crew» debuted with the single «(I Just) Died In Your Arms», which in August 1986 took the fourth place in the UK. Their first album, "the Broadcast" has received quite contradictory reviews in the British music press, but in spite of that in 1987 they were nominated for "Grammy" award in the category "Best New Artist" and re-released in the United States, the single «(I Just ) Died In Your Arms »topped the charts" Billboard ". All ten songs from the first album were soft and melodic pop-rock; in fact, they were designed in the style popular in those years of guitar new wave, but unlike other representatives of this trend, such as «Big Country» and «U2», music «Cuttnig Crew» differed much more commercially oriented - smoothed, polished sound, as well as a distinct melody, the songs made them an ideal target for a hit in the charts, as well as broadcast on radio and television. Having achieved international popularity, «Cutting Crew» toured extensively throughout the world, together with other artists, in the meantime, two more of their compositions became hits - a dynamic «One For The Mockingbird» and romantic ballad «I've Been In Love Before», took eighth in the United Kingdom and the United States in the ninth. However, to consolidate the initial success they have not succeeded - tightened with the release of their second album, they have lost time, and when in 1989 finally appeared «The Scattering», he has not caused the previous interest and almost fell. A similar fate awaited their new singles «(Between A) Rock and a Hard Place», «The Scattering» and «Everything But My Pride». Musicians recorded new material was less commercial on his serve and work a little like «U2» group, which «Cutting Crew» originally native surround, surround sound, designed for stadiums and large venues. «Cutting Crew» continued to perform, but luck has turned away from Nick Van Ide and his colleagues - was released in 1992. The third album «Compus Mentus» has been completely ignored by both the public and music critics, and the following year the band broke up. McMichael Kevin joined the band of the former vocalist of «Led Zeppelin» Robert Plant and participated in the recording of one of his most successful albums «Fate Of Nations», where he acted not only as a guitarist, but also as a co-author of four songs. Later, he returned to Canada, where for several years engaged in production work and recorded with local musicians. A few years later, in December 2002, McMichael died of lung cancer in a hospital in the city of Halifax. As for the rest of the team, the drummer Martin Biddle and bassist Colin Farley chose a career session musicians in particular Biddle recorded with Italian singer Zucchero and his compatriot Sarah Brightman, and their former leader Nick Van Ida as a writer, producer and guest vocalist long collaborated with different artists, as well as from time to time appeared in some shows in the company of other heroes of the eighties such as «Simple Minds» or «Marillion». In 2006 Nick released the album «Grinning Souls» under the name of his former band, but two other veterans «Cutting Crew» - Biddle and Farley has not participated in this project.
