В 1984 году три школьных приятеля из небольшого австрийского городка Bad Aussee - Freddy Jaklitsch (родился 22.01.60), Manfred Temmel (родился 25.02.59) и Andy Schweitzer, решили создать свою группу и назвали её Joy. До образования группы, Фредди Джаклич работал учителем немецкого языка в школе, Манфред Теммель – ди-джеем, а Энди Швейцер служил в полиции.
Первый сингл новой австрийской группы Joy с названием "Lost In Hong Kong" появился на свет в феврале 1985 года. Песня особенного успеха не имела, но о группе стали появляться небольшие заметки в прессе.
Следующий сингл Joy - "Touch By Touch", который был записан в сентябре 1985 года, сразу попал в Тор 20 лучших танцевальных композиций. Эта песня задала тон всему дальнейшему творчеству группы.
Первый альбом группы Joy – "Hello", пять недель был на первом месте в нескольких чартах и принес группе настоящую популярность. Их пластинки выходили в 30 странах.
Летом 1986 года группа закончила запись второго альбома - "Joy And Tears". Самая известная и популярная песня с этого диска - "Japanese Girls". Благодаря «Японским девочкам», группа Joy покорила Азию.
Их гастрольный тур 1987-го года посетили 600.000 зрителей. После концерта на Сеульском стадионе, где собралось 20.000 человек, Joy стали очень популярны в Южной Корее. Специально к этому туру была выпущена компиляция из лучших песен с первых двух альбомов группы.
В течении следующего года Joy выступили с концертами в Америке и Европе - в Германии, Португалии, Италии.
Во время подготовки третьего альбома, в 1989 году, отношения между членами группы и руководством компании OK-Musica обострились до такой степени, что Фредди и Манфред отказались от работы в студии.
Чистовую запись нового альбома группы Joy закончил клавишник Энди Швейцер. В 1989 году альбом "3rd" был выпущен на виниле, а в 1992 году издан на CD, позже диск переиздавался под названием "She's Dancing Alone".
Диск отличается от предыдущих альбомов Joy, музыка стала более спокойной, мелодичной и достаточно стильной. Как и раньше, автором большинства композиций (10 из 11-ти) был сам Энди Швейцер. В дальнейшем Швейцер продолжил музыкальную карьеру, работая с разными группами в Германии, Швейцарии и Испании.
Манфред Теммель некоторое время работал диск-жокеем в Австрии и Германии.
Казалось что на этом история трио Joy закончилась, но на гребне успеха очередного сборника, выпущенного в 1993 году, Фредди Джаклич и Манфред Теммель получили от австрийского отделения BMG Music предложение реанимировать группу. В 1994 году они записали сингл "Hello, Mrs. Johnson", который имел некоторый успех у публики.
В 1995 году к группе присоединился клавишник Johannes Groebl, музыканты записали сингл "Felicidad", а следом вышел альбом "Full of Joy", состоящий из 10 композиций.
И, наконец, в 1999 году, звукозаписывающая компания OK-Musica выпустила на CD ремастированный сборник "Best Of Joy", включающий в себя 12 песен из первых двух альбомов группы, трек "Chinese Girls", а также "Touch By Touch Millenium Mix".
Вот, собственно, и вся история австрийской группы Joy, остаётся только добавить, что второй состав группы Joy продолжает концертировать и в конце 2002 года выступал в России на фестивале "Дискотека 80-х".
